NEW YORK INS OFFICES

The INS maintains two District Offices. One is in Buffalo with a suboffice in Albany. The other is in New York City (Manhattan).

The Buffalo District Office serves all of New York State with the exception of the following counties: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), New York City (Manhattan), Queens, Staten Island, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester. It is located at INS Buffalo District Office; Federal Center; 130 Delaware Avenue; Buffalo, NY 14202. The Buffalo District Office is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. The office is closed on Saturday and Sunday and on Federal holidays. To speak with an Immigration Information Officer, you must obtain a ticket. Tickets may be obtained from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please note that this office does not accept cash. Fees must be paid only by check or money order.

The Albany sub-office provides services for immigration-related matters for the following counties in New York State: Albany, Broome, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saint Lawrence, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Tioga, Warren, and Washington. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Office is located at 1086 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, New York 12110.

The New York City District Office serves the following counties and 5 Boroughs: (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island), Nassau, Orange, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan. The New York City Office is located at the INS New York City District Office; 26 Federal Plaza; New York City, NY 10278. The District Information Office is open from Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. We are closed Saturday, Sunday and Federal holidays. To speak with an Immigration Officer, you must go to the 3rd floor, Room 120. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets may be obtained after 7:30 AM, for visits that may occur between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Please be prepared to wait several hours or until your number is called. This Office accepts cash, checks or money orders as forms of payment. Applicants who are presenting checks in person for INS services at the New York City District must present two forms of identification. A government-issued picture identification must be presented. Examples of such identification are state-issued driver's licenses, passports, Permanent Resident Cards, or INS Employment Authorization Cards. The photograph on the identification must match the person presenting the check. In the case of a business check, the presenter must show evidence of employment with the firm. A Social Security card or another form of identification. If any of the above criteria cannot be met, the applicant must pay with money order, certified bank check, or cash. Applicants should write their A-number (if any), date of birth, and place of birth on the front of the check. In the case of third-party checks, the applicant's name should be included as well as the A-number (if any), date of birth, and place of birth.
